About ESS

I became a fiber artist at a very young age. However, as a child of about seven, taught to sew, embroider, and crochet, I had no idea that I was a fiber artist. I also had no idea that working with textiles could be my career.

As an adult, I worked primarily in higher education. My retirement from education provided the pause I needed to explore a variety of avenues in search of my next chapter. And I found what I loved most doing was making things from textiles.

Here's the short story:

At the tail end of 2021, I began making hats (mostly flat pattern). In 2023 I began designing my own fabric for my hats. By the end of 2023, I started sewing my own clothing again after a lifetime away from apparel sewing. My 2024 goal was to purge my closet of fast fashion and make most of my own clothing. By year's end, I had added 25 new items and one quilted Orbit bag to my "me made" wardrobe. I had simply and without even realizing it become fully immersed in and motivated by what I loved doing.

And that brings us to 2025 and the point when another project wouldn't let me be. You know when you can't stop thinking about something that it is a good sign to pursue it. I felt compelled to step further into the magical world of textiles and launch my own curated fabric shop.

My goal is to offer something different from what apparel sewists can find at the big corporate box stores by supporting sustainable fabric manufacturers and promoting a conscious closet. Ensemble Sewing Studio is my contribution to showcasing the art of fabric design and crafting and, additionally, instilling a love for sewing in others.

Essentially, Ensemble Sewing Studio evolved from my deep love and appreciation for textiles. I invite you to join me on this joyful journey of creativity.
